The Mission of the
Grand Prairie Chamber of Commerce is
to promote, strengthen and expand
our business community.

Upcoming Chamber of Commerce Events:

BUY A TREE TO CELEBRATE A CENTURY

The city of Grand Prairie will celebrate its 100 year anniversary of incorporation in 2009.  As part of the celebration, the Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with the Grand Prairie Chamber of Commerce, is offering a Centennial Tree Program.

Individuals, groups and companies may purchase and plant one of only 100 trees being offered in this one-of-a-kind opportunity to embrace Grand Prairie’s 100th birthday.  Planting a tree that will last into the next century is a grand tribute to celebrate our history and future. Trees can commemorate a special life moment or loved one.

To participate, the cost is a $500 donation per tree, cash, check or charge.  One hundred trees are available, each representing a year from 1909-2009.  Only one tree per year will be allowed.  Years are available on a first-come basis through the Grand Prairie Chamber of Commerce, 972-264-1558, beginning Friday, Dec. 19, 2008.

Various species have been chosen that will provide a long lasting memory of this historic event.  Purchaser can choose from the selected varieties: Burr Oak, Chinese Pistache, Golden Rain Tree, Bald Cypress, Texas Red bud, autumn blaze maple, elderica pine, live oak, chinquapin oak, Texas ash.  Trees selected are native and adapted to our area with considerable life span and great stature.  Trees planted will be of 3’ caliper and range up to 8 to 10 feet at planting.  Every tree will have a Grand Prairie Centennial Tree plaque signifying it is one of the 100 official Centennial Trees.  Each tree will come with a framed certificate specific to that year, which will be personalized and include mayor’s signature.  It will include facts from that year in Grand Prairie history, tell about the species of tree planted, and also include any fact that is important to you or your family regarding that year.

All trees will be planted by the Grand Prairie Parks and Recreation Department or their representative at a location chosen by the purchaser, either public or private land.  Purchaser may request planting at specific public parks or facilities.   Trees must be planted within Grand Prairie according to proper location standards.  Trees carry a one-year warranty.  Tree planting dates will be coordinated with purchaser.

Existing utility and irrigation location will be the purchaser’s responsibility.  Trees planted on private property become purchaser’s responsibility to maintain.  Guidance and direction will be included through Grand Prairie’s certified arborist, Susan Henson.

For an order form, click on the link below, contact the Chamber of Commerce, 972-264-1558, or visit www.gptx.org or  www.grandfungp.com.

During 2009, 100 events will be scheduled to further create the excitement of the city’s 100th birthday.
